Depression is mental disorder that is characterized by decreased positivity. This study investigated whether responses to positive affect influence depression, and interact with positive life events. College students(n=448) were taken to self report assessment for responses to positive affect, emotion clarity, negative rumination, positive and negative life events, depression. As a result, dampening significantly influenced depression, but there were no interaction effects with positive life event. Positive rumination influenced depression, moreover there were three-way interaction effects including emotional clarity and positive life events as moderator variable. And negative rumination significantly influences depression, but there were no interaction effects with negative life events. This results suggest that the responses to positive affect influences depression, and partially interacts with positive life events as stressor. Finally, implications, limitations of the study, and future research options were discussed.
